And in most every position there comes a time when the writing is on the wall- it might be time to dust off the resume and head for greener pastures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8053.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"366\" height=\"264\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8053.jpg\" title=\"\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8053.jpg 366w, https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8053-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 85vw, 366px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSo when might it be time to leave? If you&#8217;re lucky, you don&#8217;t work for a boss as obviously evil and tyrannical as Mr. Burns from <i>The Simpsons.<\/i>&nbsp;So how can you tell if it&#8217;s time to set sail for somewhere else?<\/p>\n<p><b>Management Solves Problems By &#8216;Putting A Hat On It.&#8217;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8060.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8060.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"368\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8060.jpg 480w, https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8060-300x230.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The tension throughout the office is intense. Co-workers constantly snap and snipe at each other. Whatever &#8216;code of conduct&#8217; that upper management makes everyone sign is rarely followed or thought about. How does management try to solve this issue? By putting a hat on it! &#8216;Let&#8217;s wear crazy hats and do potlucks and ice breakers!&#8217; This type of thinking shines a spotlight on the organization&#8217;s inability to do anything constructive to really tackle an issue and can be a good sign that it&#8217;s time to find something new.<\/p>\n<p><b>Insincere Rewards and Recognition<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-474\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ralphcastaneda.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/img_8061-1200x675.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSure, it might be fun to get a nice reward for a job well done, but is it a sincere reward? Was it handed out with little fanfare by someone who makes it clear that this reward is something that corporate required be handed out to someone and so, &#8216;here you go.&#8217;? This can be a sure sign that the organization doesn&#8217;t really value your work and feels obligated to give you something because &#8216;that&#8217;s what everyone does.&#8217; Thus the recognition backfires and shows you that it&#8217;s a good time to get out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the articles we&#8217;ve shared here have been management-centric, but regardless of position, everyone is ultimately managed by someone else.
